چکیده
Mussel-inspired coatings, known for their outstanding substrate-independent adhesive capabilities, have numerous potential applications in materials science and biomedical fields. To improve the understanding of how these polymers’ molecular structure chemical composition affect coating mechanisms resulting properties, herein three mussel-inspired polymers are developed: dendritic polyglycerol with 40% catechol groups 60% amines (dPG40), linear 80% catechols 20% (lPG80), finally lPG40 amines. After a series characterizations, it is found that surface modification monolayer can be easily achieved lPG40, robust well-defined nano- to micro-structural coatings possible lPG80 dPG40. Tunable properties include not only speed, but thickness, roughness, surficial topography. This diverse suite controllable attributes enables (MiPG) satisfy wide-range on multiple materials.

Surface Modification of Adhesives, Inks and Coatings –
It is well documented that plastics surface modification techniques can greatly improve the acceptance of a wide variety of coatings, adhesives and inks for improved decoration, painting and adhesive assembly. By increasing the hydrophilic characteristics and surface-free energy of plastics, bond strengths can be improved dramatically. It is theorized that interlayer adhesion between decorating...
متن کاملSurface Modification of Anodized Titanium for Calcium Phosphate Coatings
The anodization of titanium involves the formation of a thin, dense and compact, oxide layer. In this process the rutile structure of the original titanium oxide is converted into an anatase structure. It is this anatase structure and how it influences the bonding properties of the sol gel coating of hydroxyapatite (HAp) was the main aim of this research project. "he titanium samples were anodi...
متن کاملDriving Tissue Morphogenetic Cascades Using Tunable Nanolayered Surface Coatings
Harnessing the synergy between materials at the nanoscale can be a valuable tool in understanding and probing cellular phenomena and in driving specific processes that lead to tissue and organ regeneration and repair. Biomedical implants attempt to materially replace damaged tissues, restore function, improve mobility, and alleviate pain. However, these implants often fail to recapitulate the o...
متن کاملSurface-mediated bone tissue morphogenesis from tunable nanolayered implant coatings.
The functional success of a biomedical implant critically depends on its stable bonding with the host tissue. Aseptic implant loosening accounts for more than half of all joint replacement failures. Various materials, including metals and plastic, confer mechanical integrity to the device, but often these materials are not suitable for direct integration with the host tissue, which leads to imp...

The hydrolysis-condensation of trialkoxysilanes under strictly controlled conditions allows the production of silsesquioxanes (SSQs) with tunable size and architecture ranging from ladder to cage-like structures. These nano-objects can serve as building blocks for the preparation of hybrid organic/inorganic materials with selected properties. The SSQs growth can be tuned by simply controlling t...
